A good ending, A new beginning, A renewed hope

April 10, 2011 was my friends and former classmates graduation. They were left a school year behind of us because of some grade problems with our department chairman, back when we were still in our junior year. This force them to re-take a subject which unfortunately had some pre-requisite complications. Haifa, Kareen, and Merckz are one of my good pals in college. We used to hang-out a lot, we lunch together at kiosk, study together at WOW Cottage, eat banana cues outside "Mama Gemma", scolded together for being noisy (Hep! except for Haifa, and Francis was also scolded, haha), and practiced together for our Dramatics prod of "The House of Bernarda Alba". Kareen, Merckz and I were part of the women's basketball team of CSSH, the Vanguards. Kareen was our star player, Merckz was our center, and uhm..I'm the benchwarmer..(huhu..) Haifa was the cheerleader (thank God she had a very loud, defeaning voice) :b. We may never won a single championship but were still thankful that every year, we improved our rankings :)

When I graduated last year, I had mixed feelings. I was happy that after four years of battling rigorous challenges of attaining a MSU diploma, I finally survived it. However, I was also sad that I will leave the portals of MSU that for four years had crushed my spirit, made me cry because of 5's but thankful of 3's, took my heart's out, made me proud of my little accomplishments, squeeze the best out of me and took the pain of failing and the pride of passing. But beyond these, I was sad that I will leave behind my friends who took that roller coaster ride with me. back when I was in third year, I envisioned that the "Chui" (Me, Kareen and Merckz, and Francis) will graduate together. But I know God has other plans for us. With francis, we could have graduated together but unfortunately, he had some problems with his P.E class and he needed to retake it in summer class which unable him to march. Its good to have that feeling of taking photos of you with your friends and classmates wearing a toga and waiting for the commencement exercises to start and I'm glad that Kareen, Haifa, and Merckz had finally experienced it. It is a feeling of triumph and nostalgia as you hear your name being called up the stage to receive your diploma and as you passed by the school buildings and classrooms that molded you to what you are on that special day, as you leave the grounds of MSU. Somehow, you remember the day when you first enter the gates of MSU as a wide-eyed freshman. It may have taken us four years or five even six years to some of our friends who were left behind, but the memories of our struggles, triumphs, defeats, camaraderie and friendship will never be forgotten as we close a chapter and open another one in this book of our life.

Amen!

Si Jayjay, ang future Summa-Cum-Laude (fingers crossed!)

Ang future Summa Cum Laude

Si Leo James Podador o Jayjay ay ang nag-iisang lalaki sa mnga pamangkin ko. 3 and a half years old pa lang si JJ pero memorize na nya ang alphabets. Kahit sa panaginip, ABCD's pa rin ang napapanaginipan nya. Minsan nga, naalimpungatan siya, ABCD pa rin ang sinasabi nya. Sabagay, okey na rin para sa amin yun, maaga siyang namulat sa pag-aaral. Ika' nga, bright na bata. Yung ibang bata pag nakapunta ng mall, laruan agad ang ipabibili sa magulang. Pero iba si JJ. Imbes na laruan, libro ang pinabibili niya (pero syempre bata, magdedemand ng Jollibee..hehe). Kapag nanuod naman kami ng Youtube, gusto nya letters, shapes at numbers yung panonoorin namin. Sa katunayan nga, memorize na rin namin yung mga paborito nyang videos sa Youtube (syempre, Alphabets pa rin!) Kinakanta na nga namin yung "A is for apple, a-a-apple, B is for ball, ball-ball,ball.."

Studious talaga si JJ. Mahilig magbasa, magsulat, magdrawing, at manuod ng mga educational videos. Marunong na nga sya maglaro at buuin yung simpleng nickelodeon puzzles sa PC. Marunong na ring syang magtype sa Microsoft Word. Pagnag-iintenet nga kami, gusto nya, sya ang hahawak ng mouse at mag-ooperate. Iiyak pag hindi mo pagbibigyan na manood ng mga paborito nyang Youtube videos o i-open yung Starfall website kung saan puro ABCD's at children's stories ang laman. Minsan talaga, nagugulat na lang ako sa mga ginagawa at hilig niya. Para sa akin, di yun ugali ng isang ordinaryong 3 and a half years old na bata. Yung ibang pamangkin kong si Keisha (6 years old) at Sandy (5 years old) puro laro lang ang ginagawa. May oras naman na nag-aaral talaga sila pero most of the time na nakikita ko sila, laro lang o panonood ng Ben 10 na cartoon (pati rin pala ang certified laagan na si Dora) ang inaatupag nila. Di ko usually sila nakikita na kumakanta ng ABCD's o nagsusulat at nagdrodrawing ng kung anu-ano. Si Sandy nga, iiyak pa pag ginising mo na para pumasok sa school. Sabagay, ganun din naman ako nung bata ako. Pero si JJ, siya pa ang pumipilit sa mama nya na pumasok sa school. Magtatantrums pag di makapasok sa school (nagsusumer class na sya sa Wizard). Once nga, nakapasok sya sa school ni Shen-shen, ayaw na nyang lumabas. Binati pa nya yung teacher na "good moyning, peacher.." kelangan pa syang hilahin ng mama nya palabas ng room kasi magsisimula na ang class nina Shen-shen.

Ang bugoy

Palaaral si JJ pero tulad ng ibang bata, mahilig din syang maglaro. Napakakulit at napakalikot nya rin. Talaga namang nakakapagod bantayan. Pagod na pagod ako pagkatapos ko syang bantayan. Pero nakakatuwa rin namang maging yaya nya. Nabaliw lang ako nung minsang pilitin nya kong magdrawing ng waterfalls at spider (Wala talaga akong katalent-talent sa drawing).

Mabait din ang makulit kong pamangkin na yun. Hindi rin sya palaaway at marunong pang magsabi ng "thank you" pag may binigay ka. Hindi tulad ng ibang bata, lalayas na lang pagkatapos mong bigyan ng kung ano.

Sa pinapakita ni JJ, di talaga malayong maging honor sya pag nagsimula na sya ng proper schooling. Baka manging Valedictorian pa pagraduate nya ng elementary at high school. Sa batang edad pa lang, nag-eenjoy na syang mag-aral. Wala ng paluan at iyakan na mangyayari para lang piliting mag-aral. Basta confident ako na paglaki nya, gragraduate syang SUMMA CUM-LAUDE..Sana LORD!!
